Overview: Moloch is an ancient, hateful demon, trapped in the body of a giant thorny devil, a species of Australian desert lizard. His rough hide is covered in curved, hard spines. His body is constantly producing immense heat, which melts the sand around him into glass. His hide is pitted with scars, which can open and close on command, releasing waves of hellfire – demon flames, the hottest substance in existence, which is used to torture wrong-doers in the under-realm and burns a fierce blue.
Origin: Alongside his brothers Belial and Ba’al, Moloch was one of a number of angels who rebelled against god and were cast into the underworld, where they became brutal demon-lords. Moloch ruled his kingdom of brimstone and flame with an iron fist. Those sent to be punished by him were immured alive in tombs of lava, or chained to volcanoes and left to burn with every heaving eruption.
But Moloch’s cruelty was too much – even for a demon. Satan cast the aberration out of hell and onto earth, where his flesh, having not felt the embrace of the sun and the wind for millennia, began to smolder and burn. Seething with rage, Moloch searched this barren, sandy landscape he found himself in, desperate for someway to survive. With the last ounce of his power, he transferred his soul into the body of a thorny devil, a species of desert-faring Australian lizard.
The lizard struggled to contain the immortal fury of the demonlord, and so Moloch summoned dark and chaotic magics, slowly, replacing he lizard’s blood with pure hellfire. As a byproduct, the lizard grew to immense size, and immense heat began to pour off it. With the transformation complete, Moloch tilted his horny head and caught the scent of wrong-doers – those needing to be punished. With a flick of his scaly tail, he headed for the coastline.
